Long Story ShortReadHide
- What it is: the quieter villa district west of Dzintari, part of the golden mile of first-line streets but calmer and greener, anchored by the historic Bulduri gardening school and its dendrological park.
- Who it suits: villa households and second-home buyers who want quiet, gardens and the sea a block away, and will trade daily-shopping convenience for it.
- What it costs: a sought golden-mile address, about 2 350 EUR / m² ≈ $250 / sq ft in the city premium segment, with prime villa stock far higher.
- What people complain about: how sleepy it is off-season, and how little café, restaurant and everyday retail it has of its own.

First impressions
Bulduri is the calm, green stretch of the golden mile. A grid of villa boulevards, Bulduru prospekts and Meža prospekts among them, is rich in turn-of-the-century wooden architecture: towered verandas, coloured-glass porches, carved detail, set among pines and gardens. It is low-density, residential and quiet.
It carries less commercial churn than Majori or Dzintari, and a year-round core of villa households, though the same summer swing applies to its holiday houses. The draw is the quiet and the sea a block away, not the street life.
The honest caveat is that this quiet tips into sleepy off-season. Bulduri has little independent café, restaurant or nightlife of its own, and a full shop or a dinner out means a short hop east.
Who lives here, and what the streets look like
Bulduri is year-round villa households and second-home owners drawn by the quiet and the sea. There is less turnover than in the resort core, but the holiday houses still empty out in winter.
The streets are the whole point: wide, pine-lined villa boulevards of carved wooden summerhouses, gardens behind low fences, and almost no through traffic. It is a place to walk in, not a place to run errands in.
Getting around
Bulduri has its own station, about 30 minutes to Riga on the same electrified line, and it is flat and very cycle- and walk-friendly. But you walk within a residential district: the services are lighter than the Majori core, and a full shop usually means a couple of stops east by train or a short drive.
Daily life
This is a villa district, thin on retail, so residents use Majori or Dzintari, or drive, for a full shop. For food delivery, Wolt and Bolt Food both reach Bulduri because it sits near the central coverage belt, but honestly the choice is seasonal and thinner than in Majori, and drops off further once the summer venues close. Plan for a quiet, garden-and-sea life here rather than a delivery-at-the-door one.

Local Places Worth Knowing
Independent and close by, chosen on merit. Nobody pays to appear here.
The district's green centrepiece on Viestura iela, a park of more than 14 hectares and 250-plus plant varieties, part of the gardening school founded in 1910.
A well-reviewed neighborhood café, a rare daily coffee stop in a residential district. Verify the exact name and Bulduri address on Maps before a visit; the district's café life is genuinely thin.
Seafront modern Italian at the Baltic Beach Hotel, a few minutes east in Majori; noted honestly as a nearby kitchen, since Bulduri has little dining of its own.
View on Google MapsA beachfront restaurant on Dzintari beach one district east, among the top-ranked in Jūrmala; listed as a nearby option, not an in-district one.

Schools and families
Families in Bulduri draw on the wider Jūrmala school network rather than a single district catchment, and the quiet streets and gardens suit young children. Latvia has a per-school ranking, built on centralised-exam results, that is not drawn to neighborhood lines. It is the sort of gap we would rather flag than fill, which is part of why we build these Jūrmala guides the way we do. Check the specific schools and their admission before you sign a lease or purchase.
Kids Friendly. Quiet, low-traffic villa streets, gardens, pines and a calm beach make it easy and safe with children, though the light everyday services mean errands and school runs involve a hop to Majori or Dzintari.
Pet Friendly. Quiet villa streets, pinewoods and a nearby beach suit dog-walkers. Under the 2024 city rule dogs are allowed on the beach on a leash from 1 Nov to 31 Mar and banned from 1 Apr to 31 Oct; the nearest off-leash beach area is at Dzintari.
Green space, leisure and eating out
Green space is Bulduri's signature. The Bulduri beach closes the seaward end, and inland the Bulduri Horticultural School Dendrological Park, more than 14 hectares with over 250 plant varieties, anchors the district, with quiet pine-lined streets in between. Eating out is genuinely thin here; the nearest named kitchens, like Il Sole and the Light House, sit a few minutes east in Majori and Dzintari.
What it costs
Bulduri is a premium villa address. There is no clean Bulduri-only figure, so we show the city's premium segment, about 2 350 EUR / m² ≈ $250 / sq ft (Latvia Sotheby's, 2025), with prime villa stock reaching three and a half to seven thousand euros a square metre and above (Investropa, 2026). Rent is reported only as listings; the Jūrmala band asked about 1 800 EUR / mo for houses (Latio and EstateLatvia, 2024), which we show as a snapshot, not a median.
Weather and climate
Seasonal averages for Jūrmala, one representative month per season. LVĢMC 1991-2020 normals (shared coastal normal, Riga station, ~25 km east on the same Gulf of Riga shore) via Wikipedia climate box; no separate long-run Jūrmala normal is published.
The honest downsides
It is quiet to the point of sleepy. Especially off-season, Bulduri has little independent café, restaurant or nightlife of its own, and the villa streets can feel very still.
You trade convenience for calm. A full shop or a dinner out means Majori or Dzintari; the garden-and-sea quiet comes at the cost of everyday services on the doorstep.
Crime and safety
Latvia publishes recorded crime by municipality, in CSP table NOR020, but no clean per-district or per-year Jūrmala figure was retrieved here, so the national picture stands in. Nationally, Latvia recorded 35,609 crimes in 2023, roughly 191 per 10,000 inhabitants, and it carries the EU's highest homicide rate at about 4.2 per 100,000. In a quiet villa district the everyday concern is opportunist theft from empty holiday houses; treat that as qualitative, since no Jūrmala seasonal series was sourced.
Is this you?
If you want villa calm, gardens, pinewoods and the sea a block away, and you accept a hop east for shops and dinner, Bulduri is Jūrmala at its most restful. If you want a high street and daily life on the doorstep, Majori will suit you far better; if you want culture and a dog beach with it, look at Dzintari next door.

How we put this together. Gathered on the ground by our local field team and written up by the Apraiz research team. Every figure above carries its own source and date. The scores are not computed by the build; walking and transport will use open map and transit data first, then Apraiz's own model. We update prices quarterly, transport and amenities twice a year, and school data when the source publishes.
