Long Story ShortReadHide
- What it is: a modern reclaimed harbour-front quarter on north-west Amager, built around the Havnepark and the city's most famous harbour bath.
- Who it suits: families and young professionals who want new waterfront flats and a park-and-swim life a Metro stop from the centre.
- What it costs: above the city average; no separate figure is published, so we show the Copenhagen owner-flat average of about 55,000 kr per m², and its modern flats sit above it.
- What people complain about: thin standalone amenities, and new-build uniformity plus summer crowds at the baths.

First impressions
Islands Brygge, "Bryggen" to locals, is a reclaimed harbour-front quarter on north-west Amager, between the Stadsgraven moat and the inner harbour, facing Vesterbro across the water. Land reclaimed and industrialised from the 1880s carried factories until the 1990s; today it is a modern residential quay defined by the long Havnepark and the open-air harbour bath that opened in 2003.
It is watery, modern and family-friendly, lively in summer around the baths and calm the rest of the year.
This is new-Copenhagen waterfront living, and it is honest that the buzz is mostly the park and the swimming, with real choice one Metro stop away.
Who lives here, and what the streets look like
Islands Brygge is a modern family and professional quarter, families with children, young professionals and well-off residents, with incomes above the city median. It draws people who want space, water and newness close to the centre.
The streetscape is a flat quay grid: mostly 1990s and 2000s apartment blocks, the converted grain-silo towers of the Gemini Residence, the long lawns of Havneparken with its old railway tracks kept as heritage, and the harbour bath on the water. It is walkable along the quay and easy to cycle.
Getting around
Islands Brygge runs on the Metro and the bike. Islands Brygge station is two stops from the centre, with DR Byen just to the south, and the Bryggebroen cycle bridge of 2006 crosses to Vesterbro, so the whole district is quick to leave by bike or train. The centre is a short Metro ride and the airport is a direct-ish Metro ride of about a quarter of an hour.

Daily life
Day to day, Islands Brygge is local grocers and the park. The everyday runs to a Netto, a Meny and a Rema 1000 along the residential streets, with small cafés on the quay, and retail is limited and local, with the city centre one Metro stop away for real choice. For food delivery, Wolt and Just Eat both cover Copenhagen.

Schools and families
Islands Brygge is a modern family quarter, with Skolen pa Islands Brygge as the folkeskole plus nearby Amager options. Denmark publishes leaving results, the afgangskarakterer, through the Borne- og Undervisningsministeriet, but not at a per-district grain, so we do not rate schools here. Copenhagen has broadly free school choice, so it is worth checking admission before you sign a lease or purchase.
Kids Friendly. A modern family favourite, with harbour-park playgrounds, the swimming baths, wide new flats and a folkeskole, with the caveat that it is a working harbour front, so open water is a constant around small children.
Pet Friendly. The long Havnepark lawns and the harbour promenade are prime dog-walking, and Amager Faelled's nature commons are a short walk south; leash rules apply in the park.
Green space, leisure and eating out
Islands Brygge's outdoors is the harbour park and the water. Havneparken and the harbour bath define the district, Amager Faelled's wild commons and the Bella and Orestad amenities are close to the south, and kayaking and winter-bathing clubs use the quay. The culture house programmes concerts, flea markets and family events, though sit-down dining is limited, so eating out often means a short trip to the centre.
What it costs
Islands Brygge prices above the city average, its modern waterfront flats commanding a premium. No Islands Brygge-specific sale price is published, so we show the Copenhagen owner-flat average of about 55 000 DKK / m² (about €7,400 / m²) ≈ $790 / sq ft (Boligsiden and Finans Danmark, second quarter of 2026), and its modern flats sit above it. Rent is largely set by the market, and Denmark does not publish a per-city 2-room figure, so we show a market asking level of around 12 000 DKK / mo (about €1,600 / mo) (BoligPortal, 2026) as a guide; much older stock is rent-regulated and cheaper.

The honest downsides
Thin standalone amenities. It is a fine harbour park and a famous set of baths, but the independent café, restaurant and shopping scene is limited, so real choice is one Metro stop away rather than at the door.
New-build uniformity and summer crowds. The housing is mostly 1990s and 2000s blocks with a certain sameness, and the harbour bath gets packed on hot weekends, so the quiet quarter turns busy and loud in high summer.
Crime and safety
Islands Brygge is a calm, family-oriented waterfront that reads as safe, and Denmark does not publish neighborhood-level crime figures, so there is no local number. Denmark has high police-reporting trust, so the city-wide figures track real incidence closely. The fuller Copenhagen picture is on the city safety page.
Is this you?
If you want a modern waterfront flat with a park and a harbour bath at the door and the centre one Metro stop away, and you do not need a dense high street of shops and restaurants, Islands Brygge is an easy, watery place to live. If you want an independent café scene, older character or a lower price, Nørrebro or Valby will suit you better.

How we put this together. Gathered on the ground by our local field team and written up by the Apraiz research team. Every figure above carries its own source and date. The scores are not computed by the build; walking and transport will use open map and transit data first, then Apraiz's own model. We update prices quarterly, transport and amenities twice a year, and school data when the source publishes.
