Alongside it, the former Kangas paper mill, founded in 1872 and closed in 2010, is being remade into one of Finland's flagship brownfield city districts, and the Tourujoki restoration is reworking the green spine that runs through it.
The appeal is location and price: you are minutes from the Travel Centre and the Kauppakatu, at a central address that has not yet caught up to central prices. For buyers who want to be near the middle of the city without paying for it, Tourula is one to watch.
The honest caveat is that it is a district in transition. The housing is mixed and utilitarian, there are industrial edges, and the Kangas redevelopment means construction and building-site surroundings for a while yet.

Getting around
Tourula is about as well connected as a non-central district gets. The Travel Centre and the Kauppakatu are only minutes away on foot or by bus across the river, so a car is genuinely optional here. The river and the main roads do split the district, so the walk into town depends a little on which side you are on.

The Kangas redevelopment is adding shops and eateries to what was a light offer, and the full range of the centre is a short walk over the river, so the essentials are covered and the choice grows each year. Schools and families
Central comprehensive schools serve the district, and Finland gives families broadly free school choice rather than tying you to one catchment.
