First impressions
Dalum is a settled, green residential suburb about four kilometres southwest of the centre, strung along the Dalumvej spine, bordering Hjallese, Sanderum and Bolbro, with Fruens Bøge forest and the Odense Å valley on its eastern edge. It grew from factory town to suburb around the medieval Dalum Kloster and the old Dalum paper mill, and it keeps a calm, leafy, established feel.

Who lives here, and what the streets look like
Dalum is a family suburb with a broad age mix, families and older residents in the houses, drawn by the quiet, the green and the schools. It is settled and low-key.
The streetscape is leafy suburban: low-rise, houses-dominant streets along and off the Dalumvej spine, with the church, the shops and local services on the spine, and Fruens Bøge forest and the river valley on the eastern edge. It is calm and green.
Getting around
Dalum runs on the bike, the bus and a local train. Fruens Bøge Station on the Svendborgbanen still runs passenger trains to Odense Banegård and on to Svendborg, and FynBus lines run Dalumvej, so there is real public transport as well as a flat, roughly four-kilometre cycle to the centre along Dalumvej and the river paths. The Letbane tram does not serve Dalum, its single line runs the Tarup to Hjallese corridor through the centre and does not reach here. Billund Airport is about an hour out by car.

Daily life
Day to day, Dalum is the Dalumvej spine. A REMA 1000 anchors everyday shopping, with pizzerias, a konditori and local services along the road, quiet and residential rather than a going-out district. For food delivery, Wolt and Just Eat both cover Odense.

Schools and families
Dalum has its own folkeskole, Dalumskolen, with Rasmus Rask-Skolen a candidate in the wider area, and the historic Dalum Landbrugsskole, an agricultural college of 1886, adds to the mix. Denmark publishes leaving grades through the ministry, but not at a per-district grain, so we do not rate schools here. It is worth checking catchment and admission before you sign a lease or purchase.
Kids Friendly. A folkeskole and green family streets, with Fruens Bøge forest, the river meadows and Den Fynske Landsby close by, plus the historic Dalum agricultural college in the district.

Dalum's outdoors is forest and river. Fruens Bøge's 24-hectare forest and the Odense Å valley, with its meadows and the Skovsøen lake, run along the eastern edge, Den Fynske Landsby open-air museum sits adjacent, and Restaurant Carlslund's forest setting is close by. Local dining is modest, with wider choice a short trip into the centre.

No district-specific sale price is published, so we show the Odense average of about 31 000 DKK / m² (about €4,100 / m²) ≈ $450 / sq ft (Finans Danmark and Boligsiden, first quarter of 2026), and Dalum sits around or above it. Rent is set by the market, and flats are few here, so the Odense asking-rent level of around 7 500 DKK / mo (about €1,000 / mo) (BoligPortal, 2026) is only a rough guide.
