Gjesing is a large planned residential suburb directly north of the centre, about three to four kilometres out, its name on record since 1606 but its shape entirely modern: from the 1960s to the 1980s the municipality bought up the Spangsbjerg-Gjesing farmland and subdivided it into today's mix of apartment blocks and detached houses. It is anchored by Esbjerg Storcenter, with the modern Gjesing Kirke and a cluster of schools nearby. It is orderly, green and family-scaled.

Who lives here, and what the streets look like
Gjesing is a purpose-built family suburb with a broad age mix, families and older residents alongside a settled population, with a senior quarter, Sirius Seniorby, added near Gjesing Ringvej in 2022. It is calm and settled.
The streetscape is planned and low-density: apartment blocks and detached houses on quiet, orderly streets, green corridors and residential parks such as Gronlandsparken, and the Storcenter, church and schools clustered around Ulvevej and Gjesing Ringvej. It is functional and roomy.
Getting around
Gjesing runs on the bus and the car. Sydtrafik city buses connect it to the centre, about three to four kilometres south, and there is local walkability around the schools and the Storcenter, with a Gjesing halt on the local railway whose current passenger service is worth confirming. Esbjerg Lufthavn is close to the north, Esbjerg St and Torvet are about three to four kilometres south, and the Fano ferry terminal is about four to five kilometres south.

Daily life
Day to day, Gjesing is Esbjerg Storcenter. The shopping centre anchors everyday retail, and Gjesing Kirke and the schools sit clustered nearby around Ulvevej and Gjesing Ringvej, so the district is self-contained for the basics. Wolt and Just Eat both cover Esbjerg.

Schools and families
Gjesing is a purpose-built family suburb with several folkeskoler, Gjesing Skole and Vitaskolen (the merged Vestervangskolen and Blabjerggardskolen), plus kindergartens and sports. Denmark publishes leaving grades (afgangskarakterer) through the Borne- og Undervisningsministeriet, but not at a per-district grain, so we do not rate schools here. Denmark has broadly free school choice, so it is worth checking admission before you sign a lease or purchase.
